Carrie Cobb, Chief Data Officer at Blackbaud, speaks with ElectrifAi CEO Ed Scott, in a video interview about the company’s business, the approach to generative AI, and the state of data.

Blackbaud is a leading cloud software company that provides cloud software, services, expertise, and data intelligence for social good.

Cobb, a data scientist by profession, says that her company wants to harness the rapidly expanding potential of AI but do it inclusively and responsibly. She states the organizational commitment to making AI more accessible, creating powerful AI tools, and ensuring that they are built on a framework of fairness, inclusiveness, reliability, and trust.

Sharing her view on dealing with the pace of innovation, Cobb says that she considers the disruption as a time for everyone to learn something new and seek out ways to utilize the technology creatively to solve problems for customers.

Cobb further elaborates that generative AI in general is going to make Blackbaud’s solutions more powerful and accessible to users. She also mentions a just-released storytelling feature within one of the company’s products called Just Giving which allows fundraisers to create their story around why they are fundraising.

It helps them add the right tone, creativity, and spark to their story. Users fundraising for a specific cause, can start with a specific template and change tonality according to the audience. It is there to make using the tool easier along the way, adds Cobb.

In conclusion, she adds that Blackbaud is approaching AI from the viewpoint of privacy, ethics, and responsibility, not only as technology professionals, but humans as well.
