How do you stay abreast of what your competitors are doing in the IT space?
“This varies dramatically based on what the business is. IT companies like Cincinnati Bell, Peak 10 or Time Warner Cable will get their information through their selling activities and by competing with each other directly. A manufacturer, making widgets with a supply chain software built to support itself, will probably get that information through trade shows, both within the industry and where they’re trained to sell. And of course today we can view websites to see what businesses are putting out there – what papers are being published, where they are exhibiting or advertising, if they are hiring more sales people in a market – these are all clues to what they’re doing and how they’re growing.”
