It is that philosophy that recently led Hogan to dedicate about one-third of his Mason-based technology consulting and services firm’s new, larger headquarters as a meeting place that will easily accommodate over 50 tech collaborators and innovators.

“Our goal is to make our new meeting space a community tech hub. We saw a need for a place where people can collaborate, regardless of where they work. If there are tech professionals wanting to learn and grown, we want to make sure they have a place where they can connect.”

Afidence recently moved from its Reading Road location to the Triangle Building on Courseview Drive, part of the Mason Tech Elevator’s third campus.

“The entire region benefits from having a thriving technology community,” Hogan emphasizes.

“For example, if you bring 10 cybersecurity professionals into a room to collaborate and share their experiences, not only do the organizations they represent benefit from that collaboration, but that benefit extends to each of their customers, suppliers and partners. Everybody wins.”

Cybersecurity, he adds, is one of two major areas of growth that made it necessary for Afidence to seek a larger office space. The company provides a holistic approach to mitigating the compounding uncertainty in the cybersecurity lifecycle involving technology, regulatory change and cultural shift. They assess the current state of a client’s environment and then create a comprehensive road map that is scalable, measurable and practical for a client’s specific cybersecurity needs.

“Organizations increasingly want to know what their risks are, and cyber is top of mind for almost any company, regardless of size,” says Hogan. “It’s more than just ‘How does our IT department respond to a cyber-attack,’ but rather, ‘How do we elevate cyber-awareness across our company to prevent attacks?’”

Another of Afidence’s major growth areas inspiring their recent move, according to Hogan, has been application development using open source platforms. Open source platforms have proven themselves to be cost effective, while also offering clients more flexibility and control.

“Shortly after launching our Application Development practice a few years ago, we started seeing opportunities in open source development. Today, the majority of our development work centers around open source platforms. We help our clients select the right platform, customize it to meet their unique needs, deploy and maintain it,” says Hogan. “We can often accelerate our work by tapping into the open source community, finding people across the country, across the globe, with specialized expertise in these platforms.”
