VIDEO | B3 Director of Data & Analytics: Data Journey is Long and Needs Sustained Investment

(Latin America) Ricardo Leite Raposo, B3 Director of Data & Analytics, speaks with Maria Espona, ArgIQ Co-Director and CDO Magazine Editorial Board Member, about implementing data governance, management and quality, working by design, and communicating the results of data initiatives.

Sharing his experience in data governance, management and quality, Raposo says that the three do not need to be implemented in the same place or structure. They can be in different places: data management can be in IT because they fit the function, governance can be in the control area, and quality can be in operations. He stresses, however, that it has to be done according to design with everyone speaking the same language and understanding the concept of governance.

Raposo further explains that it is crucial to have a customer-centric approach while implementing the data governance framework. It does not make sense to build a database without using it for the business or as a business. In addition, he mentions that customers today are happy to collaborate in building products. Raposo highlights that it is key to have the right priorities and anticipate revenue while keeping the customer at the center.

According to Raposo, a “side effect” of not speaking the same language is that the top management does not understand the value of data initiatives. He stresses that the data journey is very long and requires sustained investments. Many initiatives fail because the top management does not understand the value of data if they do not see the results. The impact can be showcased with even small results so management can understand the return on investment.
