Krishna Tummalapalli, Director, Data Engineering and Visual Analytics at Ohio Health, speaks with PJ Weidner, District Sales Manager for OH, KY, IN, and WV at Pure Storage, in a video interview about the importance of data in delivering business outcomes, improving data quality, reducing data silos, and the importance of like third-party data solutions.
Tummalapalli begins by saying that the healthcare space is exploring several opportunities to use data to make better business decisions across areas like HR, the clinical space, or the supply chain.
He says that these uses can benefit from a data layer that can power the decision-making for the different service lines. Tummalapalli works with the subject matter experts and decision-makers from each service line. He adds that the foundational capabilities are already in place and can be scaled as needed.
When asked about his approach to improving data quality and reducing silos, Tummalapalli says that every business area likes to consume data in a certain way. From a technical standpoint, he divides it into core things that everyone in the enterprise can leverage, and custom modules for specific business areas.
Tummalapalli explains that data silos are created when users in the organization do not get the data the way they want. A fundamentally strong platform with various capabilities can not only meet standard enterprise needs but also the custom needs of different various business units, and can break the silos.
Next, Tummalapalli speaks about the importance of third-party data solutions and says that enterprises generally have limited capabilities and are unable to explore everything. Third-party providers can open doors to contemporary cutting-edge capabilities.
In conclusion, Tummalapalli stresses that data leaders should focus on picking the right solution, tying it to objectives, making the best use, and eventually scaling it to other initiatives.
