Chief Data and Analytics Officer, Walmart: We Envisioned AI and Machine Learning as Game Changers
Published on

(US and Canada) Bill Groves, Walmart's Chief Data and Analytics Officer, speaks with Riddhiman Das, CEO of Triple Blind, on how Walmart sees AI as a main disruptor in the retail market and moving forward in other areas such as knowledge. Walmart saw data as a capability that could drive change to better deliver services to customers, increasing efficiency and revenue. He elaborates that the data and insights must be of high quality. Data is a valuable asset. It must be handled and regulated.

However, Walmart faced obstacles, challenges that every company faces when it comes to data, such as data duplication, data quality, and conflicting data assets at times. Third-party data is used when needed and at the appropriate time.

Walmart addresses obstacles such as data regulations in specific zones as it operates around the world. Walmart aspires to be the world's most trusted retailer. This is Walmart's competitive edge as a brand and as a group. Everything new Walmart does with data or AI begins with a few questions in the back of their minds, such as: are we making decisions to satisfy our customers? Are we doing anything for the benefit of the customer? We hold their trust sacrosanct, and we will never violate it. Then there's the regulatory aspect to consider as well.
