(Europe) Amitabh Seli, Head of Data and CDO UK for Danone, speaks with Kensu CEO Eleanor Treharne-Jones in a video interview about data observability and the foundation required to implement an observability strategy.
Seli describes data observability as a prevention strategy that allows businesses to identify potential failure points relatively early. He adds that other parts of the equation must be in place before implementing an observability strategy, emphasizing culture is the mothership of data governance and quality. Seli stresses that businesses need robust, well-established practices and tools for data governance and quality. The data observability tool should allow data management and DevOps teams to interact intuitively.
Seli notes that a successful data observability strategy should drive business value and growth backed by high-quality data while minimizing data quality issues, data transformation risks, and data flow latency.
Seli says data observability should touch and be built around the platform fundamental to data management within a business as part of the data architecture. It also needs to interface with any ETL tools or data management pipelines within the business and with the business’s data catalog.
