(US and Canada) Alexis Normand, Greenly Co-founder and CEO, speaks with Andy Park, TeamCentral VP and Co-founder, in a video interview about climate strategy, its business impact, and Net Zero and the right way to go about it.

Greenly pushes businesses to start their climate strategy, Normand says. The organization’s mission is to make tracking emissions simple, intuitive, and extremely affordable. He notes that the only way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is to know where you stand and have a plan.

According to Normand, Greenly makes it easier for businesses to start measuring emissions without directly conflicting with their business goals. Additionally, Greenly seeks out people who are already convinced and gets them to act as ambassadors.

According to Normand, businesses either use climate strategies to prove their environmental friendliness to end consumers or to benefit themselves. He stresses that working for climate change does not have to be a sacrifice and must align with a company's business objectives.

As part of Normand's discussion of customer implementation, he mentions two approaches:

  • Pushing emission objectives down the supply chain.

  • Carbon footprint reports and action plans for suppliers.

Asked about policy and philosophy versus real practice, Normand says decarbonization depends on your personal or corporate position and the environment's function.

He points out that an organization’s decarbonization scope is divided into three parts:

  • Using less energy and more efficient machines.

  • Choosing a utility provider with a better policy on green energy.

  • Considering factors such as purchasing goods and services, freight, and employee commute.

He stresses, however, that everything cannot be done at once. It requires a strategy to focus on the most significant emission source, and an action plan must follow that.

In conclusion, Normand says that Greenly enables companies to disclose their emissions, set them on a reduction trajectory, and offset them.
