(US and Canada) Aida Tahiri, Apotex Senior Director of Enterprise Data and Analytics, speaks with Robert Lutton, Vice President, Sandhill Consultants, about the pillars of enterprise data management and the organization's digital transformation journey.
Apotex is a Canadian manufacturer and a provider of generic medicine globally. Tahiri mentions that Apotex’s enterprise data functions are based on three main pillars:
The data management focus with its components including data governance, master data, metadata reporting, governance, and data quality.
The advanced analytics capabilities to manage the data and drive insights.
The information management for working closely with the technology department to ensure the right environment and tools are in place to drive analytics and deliver data to the organization.
Tahiri says that digital transformation is one of the primary areas of focus, and her team is working with other leaders to bring the organization to the next level of digital capabilities. She stresses that, while data is one of the most important pillars, the organization is early in its journey and making steady progress.
Elaborating further, Tahiri indicates that Apotex has implemented the hub and spoke methodology with a centralized function in the enterprise data office, and a steering committee of executive leadership connected with subject matter experts, domain owners, data owners, and data stewards in all areas of the business.
Tahiri adds that the organization has invested a lot in technology, change management, and people to build up enterprise capabilities. From a maturity perspective, she points out that the organization has stood up from crawling and has started to walk.
