(US and Canada) Russ Scoville III, VP of Enterprise Data Services at CareSource, speaks with Paul Hardy, EVP of Professional Services at Ironside, in a video interview about the impact of migration on operationalizing data, the need for partnership between the data and the business sides, the effect of a data catalog, and last-mile migration challenges.
According to Scoville, migration is a primary driver of operationalizing AI/ML data for real business results. The next step is integration into operations to maximize their impact. It can lead to justification for building more and demonstrating the benefits to partners. He says the value comes from partnering data scientists with people who understand how companies make money and generate value.
With the organization moving to a cloud environment, Scoville says that the data catalog gives people a place to look up definitions and is being adopted by companies. Partners became accustomed to using the catalog to find definitions of metrics in reports, which was impossible before.
Scoville describes the last mile of cloud migration as “the unknown.” He says the most challenging aspect is unraveling code, written a decade ago and converted from different systems, that later became a foundational piece of an application. According to Scoville, the goal is to find ways to solve problems more efficiently, accurately, and repeatedly.
Scoville emphasizes the importance of building relationships for any data organization to be successful. He adds that internal industry knowledge needs to be added, and soft skills provide credibility when talking with peers, colleagues, business partners, and third parties.
