(Middle East and Africa) Billy Odera, Jubilee Insurance CDO, speaks with Ben Blanquera, VP – Evangelist and Senior Architect of Rackspace Technology, in a video interview about creating and demonstrating value for the organization and prioritizing initiatives.
Odera says that he has been demonstrating value in the following areas:
Protecting the bottom line. Ensuring that models can flag fraudulent activities because insurance companies lose 20% to 30% of the budget through fraudulent claims.
Customer experience. Improving the Net Promotor Score (NPS) and decreasing the time required to solve tickets.
Efficiency and productivity. Creating behavioral data points and machine learning models to understand customer behavior to make decisions faster.
Improving efficiency. Moving from descriptive to prescriptive and predictive analytics.
When asked how he identifies and prioritizes focus areas, Odera says it is always challenging. To solve this, he has broken it down into the following steps:
Identify gaps in reporting, governance, and architecture.
Create a detailed integrated roadmap of how gaps will be closed.
Overlay the integrated roadmap with the business strategy.
Identify strategic areas and the business shift.
Identify immediate wins.
Create a steering committee to select high-priority use cases and immediate wins.
Pilot the use cases, demonstrate value, and put them to use for other business entities.
Create an experimentation culture where people are not afraid to fail.
Odera adds that not creating an environment where people can try and fail will lead to taking too much time to roll out perfect solutions. He concludes by stating that he has tried to strike a balance between delivering immediate wins and staying close to the business strategy.
