(US and Canada) Global supply chain solutions leader AIT Worldwide Logistics has appointed Patrick Chew as Vice President of AI and Data Science. In his new role, Chew will lead the company’s recently established AI and data science team, a corporate-level department aimed at amplifying AIT’s investment in data. The team will lay the groundwork for implementing next-generation AI tools to enhance the company’s customer interface and overall operations.

“AIT is continually looking towards the future,” said Vaughn Moore, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “With the creation of the AI and data science team, the company is positioned to leverage generative AI, natural language processing, machine learning, large language models, and other advanced technologies.”

With a career spanning over 25 years, Chew has helped numerous Fortune 500 companies improve business intelligence, analytics, and data enablement. Before joining AIT in January 2024, he led Caterpillar’s enterprise data governance office. At AIT, he reports to President and Chief Operating Officer Keith Tholan and is responsible for directing the company’s data enablement initiatives.

Chew also holds a position on the CDO Magazine Global Editorial Board, showcasing his contributions to the field of data.

“AIT leadership has made a significant commitment to transforming our data,” Tholan said. “We are delighted to have Patrick in this key role, where he can leverage his extensive experience to guide our ongoing data journey, benefiting both our customers and teammates.”

Tholan added, “Data is a common denominator that informs and impacts every aspect of our business. At AIT, our investment in advanced data enablement signals that data is a foundational pillar of our organization. With Patrick at the helm, our new AI and data science team will drive dramatic growth and innovation for the company.”

The AI and data science team consists of three key units:

  • Data Enablement: Leading efforts to transform existing data into next-generation assets, building trust with stakeholders through improved efficiency and solutions.

  • AI Governance and Data Science: Developing AI-driven business features with a focus on accuracy and privacy as technologies evolve.

  • Business Intelligence and Analytics: Centralizing reporting and visualization needs across the organization.

“Treating data as a valuable asset involves rigorous efforts to organize and utilize millions of inputs effectively,” Chew said. “Our goal is to enhance business intelligence, boost efficiency, and drive innovation. By setting high standards for data quality and governance, we aim to improve outcomes for all stakeholders and earn our customers’ continued trust.”

“Our AI and data science initiative will distinguish AIT in the freight forwarding industry, providing a competitive edge for our shippers and investors,” Chew concluded.
