(US and Canada) Phanii Pydimarri, Senior Director, AI & Analytics Products, Stanley Black & Decker, speaks with Savio Rodrigues, Trianz VP of Client Partnership USA and CDO Magazine Editorial Board Member, about his experiences over the years, organizational strategy, and the balance between implementing emerging technologies and deriving realistic value.

Over the years, Pydimarri has been working in multiple industries and functions. He believes that data analytics can be industry agnostic. He defines digital transformation as an organizational change driver that uses digital technologies and business models to improve the overall organizational performance.

Pydimarri breaks organizational strategy down into two branches: operational-focused and growth-focused strategy. He explains that digital transformation encompasses both these areas, and a data strategy tied to digital strategies can drive these outcomes for the organizations.

He further mentions that the work is more about the problem statements and the response to them. The solution could be digital, data, analytics, or a whole new product.

When asked about striking a balance between promoting emerging technologies and setting realistic expectations, Pydimarri says that it all comes down to the opportunity and the expected outcomes within an organization. It is necessary to understand if the opportunity is actually improving the bottom line of the company, he adds.

Pydimarri also points out that another big challenge of using emerging technologies is data or the lack of it. He elaborates, for example, that using artificial intelligence requires a significant amount of data for the models to be trained. That means getting more accurate models is still a challenge.
