(US and Canada) Corinne Picataggi, Chief Technology Officer, William & Mary, speaks with Denise Collison, SHI International SVP and President of Public Sector Sales, in this video interview about the importance of addressing technical debt and the need for collaboration between a CTO, a CDO, and a CSO.
Picataggi says that organizations must consider technical debt when scaling processes. She explains that without guardrails, there would be many third-party partners deploying solutions without considering an organization’s long-term maintenance and the analytics maturity curve.
She mentions that the guardrails and the framework at William & Mary help manage technical debt. The investment, time, and measurable value are critical to the institution. She also emphasizes the need to translate the issue to leaders and help them understand that being mindful of technical debt is critical.
Elaborating, she says another step in the conversation with users is saying “no” while also analyzing their requirements and solving their problems differently.
Next, Picataggi highlights the need for collaboration between a CTO, CDO, and CSO. She says they must stay in step for optimal output because the roles are related. She concludes that no organization can put in a system without considering the data or security implications around it.
