Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, improves the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both. It rejuvenates the appearance to the surrounding area of your eyes, making you look more rested and alert.
Dr. Daniel Kuy, a board certified plastic surgeon, specializes in a wide range of facial plastic and body contouring procedures, including blepharoplasty. The most common procedures in his practice are breast augmentation, facelift, tummy tuck and eyelid surgery. Medical spa treatments include laser treatments, fillers, Botox, chemical peels and micro-needling to address symptoms such as sun damage, rosacea, acne, discoloration and aging skin.
Dr. Kuy conducts an initial comprehensive analysis to direct each patient to the care that will be most helpful and look most natural. Dr. Kuy personally performs or supervises all Swiss Medi Spa treatments to ensure treatment is aligned with Ohio Medical Board guidelines. Dr. Kuy is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and American Board of Surgery and was named a Top Doctor of 2015, 2016 and 2017 by Cincinnati Magazine.
Dr. Kuy’s expertise and depth of knowledge is what first led Kelly to reach out to the practice for blepharoplasty. She was beyond ecstatic with her results and doesn’t hesitate to recommend Dr Kuy without reservation to family and friends.
"Dr. Kuy is the best of the best when it comes to cosmetic procedures and plastic surgery. I can’t imagine a more positive experience from start to finish. I truly had a fabulous experience from the beginning to the end of the procedure. My friends and family were amazed by the results. I couldn’t be happier with Dr. Kuy and his staff," says Kelly.
Similarly, Sharon sought out Kuy Plastic Surgery based on his reputation for excellence and professionalism.
"I started noticing that I always looked tired even when I was rested and realized it was because my upper and lower eye lids were puffy. This is a condition that my father also had so I decided to rectify the situation before I got any older. I love the staff at Dr. Kuy’s office. I started going there for routine facial skincare. From the front desk receptionists, to Dr. Kuy’s assistant, Kirsten, everyone makes you feel welcome regardless of what procedure you are having. I was a bit nervous going into my eyelid surgery but the entire team made me feel relaxed and made it a very positive experience. I was concerned that the recovery would be painful but I never even had to take any pain medication. Dr. Kuy explained what the recovery would look like and what I could do to make it better. The next day he even came into the Rookwood office on his way to his Kentucky office to check my progress because he knew that location was more convenient for me. I have already recommended this practice to friends because I feel the procedure I had on my eyes has made a difference in my appearance and my field of vision has improved too."
Dr. Kuy notes that the blepharoplasty procedure is often performed on younger men and women who still have healthy facial tissue but show the first aging changes around the eyelids many time described as "looking tired" all the time even after plenty of sleep. Upper eyelid surgery can remove excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the upper eyelids. Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid, sometimes impairing vision, can also be treated by eyelid lift surgery. Lower eyelid surgery can correct bags under the eyes, droopiness and remove excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid.
It is common to develop puffiness beneath the eyes, often referred to as "bags" under the eyes, making us appear tired even when we are well-rested. This is primarily caused by excess fat and can be corrected with a procedure called transconjunctival blepharoplasty. It involves an incision inside the lower eyelid through which excess fat is removed or repositioned. Sutures are rarely needed for this type of incision, and when they are, they are undetectable to the eye and self-dissolving. Since the incision is inside the eyelid, no scarring results. Patients with fine wrinkles in addition to eyelid puffiness may benefit from a chemical peel in addition to this procedure. The chemical peel is applied to the lower eyelid skin, tightening the skin and reducing wrinkles in this area.
With aging, Nina sought out treatment from Dr. Kuy to address puffiness under her eyes. She wanted to look less tired and appreciated that Dr. Kuy took time to address her concerns about the recovery process.
Nina explains, "I was hoping to stall the aging process a little. I also wanted to look less tired and stressed. My concerns were focused mainly on my recovery. I appreciated that Dr. Kuy and his staff addressed all of my concerns thoroughly. Dr. Kuy impressed me as kind and soft-spoken. He took the time to clearly explain every aspect of the procedure. I felt like he truly cared about me. The entire staff made me feel like all of my questions were important. They made sure I felt confident through the procedure and recovery. When the procedure was complete, I was surprised how little, if any, pain I had. The success of the procedure became evident with each day. I was thrilled with the final result and wondered why I had waited so long. I already recommend Dr. Kuy to all of my friends. I tell them that he is a wonderful person as well as a gifted doctor. He will not stop until he is 100 percent completely satisfied with the result. I think he may be a perfectionist."
"There’s no reason to wait. It’s an operation that doesn’t change people – it just brightens them back up," says Dr. Kuy.
The effects of eyelid surgery usually last an entire lifetime and can make the largest aesthetic improvement to the face with the most minimally invasive of techniques.
