John Mongelluzzo, Stepping Stones Board of Trustees president, was recognized as Volunteer of the Year by the Cincinnati chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

The award was presented at the AFP’s National Philanthropy Day celebration in November.

“John has a way of getting other people to be passionate about what they’re doing, and understanding what the impact is going to be on the community and also on you as a person,” Chris Adams, Stepping Stones executive director, said.

Adams nominated Mongelluzzo, who has served on the Stepping Stones’ board since 2011, on behalf of the nonprofit. The agency works to provide pathways to independence for Cincinnati area children and adults with disabilities.

Mongelluzzo, an attorney and partner-in-charge at Calfee, Halter & Griswold, also has made an impact on the boards of the Dan Beard Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the American Heart Association’s Great Rivers Affiliate, the Flying Pig Marathon, and StarShine Hospice and Palliative Care.

Stepping Stones is a United Way partner agency serving more than 1,000 people with disabilities in day and overnight programs that increase independence and promote individual success. Founded in 1963, the agency provides educational, recreational and social programs at locations in Batavia, Indian Hill, Monfort Heights and Norwood. For more information: www.SteppingStonesOhio.org
