Though Lexi Kilgore and Tyler Edwards met as teenagers, sparks didn’t fly until five years later when their paths crossed again.
"When I saw him, I was stunned," recalls Lexi. "Tyler had grown up!"
Tyler was equally smitten, and the two dated for four years. Tyler knew he wanted to propose so after getting the blessing from Lexi’s parents, he and her mom, Karen, started to plan the perfect proposal.
They decided the ideal location would be Ault Park with its breathtaking view of Cincinnati. Then they conceived of a plan that involved convincing Lexi that she and Tyler’s mutual friend were planning a proposal and that he wanted all of their friends to be present when he popped the question.
The forecast for April 14 was for rainy, dreary weather, but when the pair arrived at Ault Park, they were met with blue skies and brilliant sunshine. They slowly traversed the stairs, hand-in-hand, and when they reached the top of the platform, rose petals peppered the ground as soft music played.
"I commented on what a lovely location this is for a proposal," says Lexi, who started to turn to find a hiding place so she wouldn’t spoil her friend’s surprise.
"Actually," Tyler said with a sly smile, pulling Lexi close, "All of this is for you."
Lexi’s mouth fell open as Tyler dropped to one knee, presenting her with a custom ring and sweet speech. Lexi burst into tears as the reality of the moment sank in. Then family and friends emerged from behind the pillars to offer hugs, kisses and well-wishes.
Tyler, who works for a construction software company, and Lexi, a first-grade teacher, plan to marry in the summer of 2020. Though they’ve not yet settled on a venue, Lexi adores her dad’s perspective.
"He says it’s not about the sparkle and the glitter. What matters is the covenant between me and Tyler."
