Coming to the decision that a parent, spouse or loved one would benefit from relocating to an assisted living community can be overwhelming and incredibly difficult. Then facing the challenge of finding the right community where they will be comfortable, independent and given the best possible care can be just as daunting.
“When searching for the right community, the most important consideration for any family is to be sure it’s a good cultural fit for the resident by keeping in mind their interests, activity level, dining preferences and geographical location to their family,” says The Sheridan at Mason’s director of sales and marketing, Terri Mundy.
Looking to provide a luxurious and comfortable lifestyle for their residents, the newly opened Sheridan at Mason takes a distinctive approach to assisted living care where they follow a more hospitality-focused model.
“When people first visit and see The Sheridan at Mason, they immediately notice this isn’t your grandma’s typical nursing home,” says Mundy. “Stemming from feedback from both the residents and their adult children, we decided to focus on the residents’ quality of life with the underlying, around-the-clock nursing services.”
“We always encourage people to come by and take a tour anytime. That way they can check things out and see if it’s a good fit.”
Complimentary Wi-Fi is offered throughout the facility. The contemporary apartments are pet-friendly and many offer walk-in closets, balconies or patios and individually controlled heating and air-conditioning. Residents also enjoy regular outings, trivia nights, bingo and bunko card games as well as a daily happy hour.
Though it may seem like a resort, The Sheridan at Mason is fitted with comprehensive health services.
“Physical, occupational and speech therapy is provided along with a physician’s office on-site and in-house pharmacy services. Our health professionals aim to inform and teach both our residents and their families on how to best care for their loved one,” says Mundy.
The Sheridan at Mason also boasts cutting-edge technology that is used to provide diligent care for residents.
“When choosing a community, the level of technology used should also be looked into. How will they monitor your loved one’s health and activity levels? How will staff be alerted if someone falls and how quickly can they respond? These are the types of questions you should prepare before visiting a potential new home for your loved one,” says Mundy.
The Sheridan at Mason uses the groundbreaking QuietCare System that allows staff to monitor, from a distance, a resident’s activity level and location.
“QuietCare can alert the nursing staff of any irregularities in a resident’s routine,” explains Mundy. “For instance, if a resident typically gets up twice a night to go to the bathroom and then suddenly starts getting up five times a night, nursing staff knows to investigate other possible health concerns such as pain management difficulties, urinary tract infection or sleep apnea issues.
“The system also monitors pulse and has an accelerometer which can sense a sudden change in position in case of a fall. This allows our staff to respond quickly to ensure our residents’ safety.”
