After an extensive historic restoration of Union Terminal, Cincinnati Museum Center is once again renting out the building’s unique spaces for events beginning this fall.
“With Union Terminal being unavailable for these last two years, we are anticipating a large influx of clients looking to be among the first to be booked back into the building,” says Andrea Howard, manager of event services. Since its opening in 1933, the art-deco train station has suffered significant water damage and natural deterioration. This full structural restoration has addressed these areas, as well as other behind-the-scenes issues with outdated mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. “The restoration was critical to the building’s future,” she says. “Preserving its past ensures the National Historic Landmark will be a meaningful backdrop for events and memories for generations to come.” In addition to much needed structural work, areas of the building are receiving a facelift as well. The Reakirt Auditorium will be revamped with new seating. “The restoration is also bringing back some amazing historic elements to the Losantiville Café,” she says. “I’m really excited to see how beautifully the space will transform for evening events.”
A significant amount of work has been done on the exterior masonry, fountain and plaza, which are iconic backdrops for prom, wedding and group photos. In addition to the popular Grand Rotunda and Public Landing in the Cincinnati History Museum, additional new spaces will be available for guests to rent. “With the variety of spaces we have available, we can accommodate events from 30 to over 3,000 guests,” Howard says. “With a building buyout, we have hosted as many as 6,000 guests in one evening.” The timeless beauty of Union Terminal provides the perfect background for events, from corporate daytime clients to fundraisers, awards banquets and weddings, with full catering services through foodservice contractors. “Union Terminal’s design and scale are breathtaking,” she says. “The building is woven into the fabric of our city’s history, making it a unique setting for any event.” With the structural restoration, this historic masterpiece will stand tall for another 80 plus years. “If you are looking to host your wedding in a place where you can return in five, 10, 20 or 50 years to celebrate an anniversary, Union Terminal will be here, ready to welcome you back.”
