The assisted and independent living spaces at the Barrington of Oakley are spacious and cozy at the same time, reflecting the community’s philosophy of bringing home to each resident.

Scores of amenities include a fitness center, beauty salon, barbershop, movie theater, wellness center and a gathering lounge. Residents and visitors enjoy the elegant entry area, a spacious formal dining room and a daily happy hour, which is a hit with many residents.

"This is a great community to entrust your loved ones. Our team focuses on our residents and their families," says Linda Boden, director of marketing and sales. Boden entrusted her father to the care at Barrington of Oakley and personally understands how important the transition to assisted living can be.

A distinct aspect of Barrington is featured through their apartments and the ability to have both assisted and independent living within the same space, which is especially helpful for couples who want to age in place.

Jimmie Merritt has lived at Barrington of Oakley with his wife, Norrie, for two years. "I like the combination of independence and care that they give us," says Jimmie. "They would do anything to help, like the man up front, Steven, if it’s raining he’ll go outside and pull my car up under the awning. They go out of their way."

Dr. Charles Pinder, who enjoys playing pool with Jimmie and other residents, has also lived at Barrington for two years with his wife Rosetta. "The staff and residents are very friendly. I enjoy socializing with friends and I like to spend time as a member of the caregivers group."

Activities are plentiful – from exercise classes to movie night and numerous craft making classes – there really is something to pique every interest. "We are not isolated at all, we socialize so often, with activities, happy hour and classes, it’s nice to have so many options," says Ethel Lackey, who has lived at Barrington for five years.

"The residents are fantastic! When we have newcomers we love to welcome them, and I cherish every friendship I’ve made," says Pres Payatis, who has lived at Barrington for two years.

The Barrington of Oakley maintains high occupancy and plans to open an adult day-care program for Memory Care in the near future. It will be limited in number in order to offer each participant a quality experience. This will be another special offering at the Barrington.

Assisted and Independent living apartments are each equipped with all major appliances, including a washer and dryer. Each apartment also has its own private balcony or patio space as well as a state-of-the-art call system that provides residents a link to resident care coordinators for their health and security.

"Our greatest compliments are when residents have instances where they leave here for a short while and they say ‘I want to go home’ – referring to Barrington – because we are home," says Boden. ϖ
