The Cincinnati Art Museum, hailed worldwide upon its completion in 1886 as "The Art Palace of the West," features more than 60,000 objects spanning 6,000 years.

Visitors can enjoy the exhibitions through public tours or participate in a wide range of art-related programs, educational activities, and special events. General admission is always free.

More than 10 years ago, the Cincinnati Art Museum made history by unveiling The Cincinnati Wing: The Story of Art in the Queen City, becoming the first art museum in the nation to dedicate permanent gallery space to a community’s art history. The Cincinnati Wing drew large crowds when it opened and is still as popular as ever today.

The museum holds and displays many paintings from Cincinnati’s "Golden Age" (1839-1900) as well as Cincinnati’s own Rookwood pottery and over 40 pieces of Cincinnati art-carved furniture.

Though the art collections of ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome are a sure draw, there are also extensive nontraditional  galleries featuring Near and Far Eastern art, Native American and African art, and extensive galleries of furniture, glass, ceramics, silver, costumes, and folk art.

The painting collection includes works by European old masters such as Titian, Van Dyck, Hals, Rubens and Gainsborough, as well as 19th- and 20th-century works by Renoir, Monet, Picasso, Braque, Modigliani, Miró and Chagall. The American collection holds works by Copley, Cole, Harnett, Wyeth, Wood, Hopper, Diebenkorn, and Rothko, as well as major artists from the 1970s and 1980s.

Areas of special strength include the only collection of Nabataean art outside of Jordan, the renowned Herbert Greer French collection of old Master prints, and a fine collection of European and American portrait miniatures.

In addition to displaying its own diverse collection, the museum also hosts national and international traveling exhibitions. Later this summer, for the first time the iconic American Gothic by Grant Wood will appear in Cincinnati alongside the Art Museum’s own Daughters of Revolution.
