Successful people who want to invest money are certainly bright, but managing finances might not be their area of expertise. That’s where Eichner Investment Planning steps in with their proficiency as an independent advisory firm.

“Everything we do for every client is customized,” says owner Alan Eichner. The firm’s level of individualized service offers a boutique business approach — the partners work with an intentionally small number of clients each year.

“We actually go to our client’s meetings with their attorneys, or accountants, whomever that may be, and we translate what that means for them and their coming years, retirement and beyond,” says John Discepoli, a financial planner at Eichner.

The process starts by sitting down with the client and going over their finances: taxes, insurance, estate planning, etc.

Eichner explains that most people never bring all of their investments down to one piece of paper to fully understand what they have and why. “We help the client understand what they have, how that broker or mutual fund is performing, and then make an informed decision on whether they should keep it.”

Their accessibility allows meetings to be held wherever is most convenient for their clients, whether at their place of work, or — in the special case of one client — on Sunday evenings at the client’s home.

Often times clients want to make sure there is continuity with their money so their spouse, children and grandchildren are taken care of. “We’re able to step in and help shepherd their money down the road,” says Discepoli. “We help provide continuity.”

Eichner Investment Planning creates and maintains long-standing relationships with both their clients and the community. Eichner serves on the investment committee of five plus endowments with a passion for giving back.

“Money is just a tool,” says Discepoli. “I’m more interested in talking about what’s going on in a client’s life and being able to help them.”

Eichner explains this sometimes means suggesting a client take plenty of time before making any decisions. “When someone gets a divorce or loses a spouse, my advice is not to do anything for six months. We don’t want to move their assets all over the place or change their life drastically. It’s more about getting to know them and their goals.”

Eichner and Discepoli follow the adage which they learned from a client: “You get what you inspect, not what you expect.” Their dedication to helping clients succeed in all areas of their financial lives has led the company to thrive over the past 12 years.
