More graduate students choose Xavier University for their Master of Business Administration program than most other local universities combined. Jen Bush, assistant dean of the Williams College of Business, and Scott Beck, marketing professor and director of the Master of Science in Customer Analytics program, explain to LEAD Magazine the reasons why Xavier’s business programs are so valuable.

LEAD Magazine: What are some examples of Xavier’s top graduate business programs?

Jen Bush: Our Executive MBA is the only EMBA program in the region. It is one of the oldest in the United States, having graduated its first class in 1978. Its emphasis is on developing the executive skill set through numerous integrated projects in a variety of industries and levels. The EMBA program is a selective admission program that starts once a year.

Scott Beck: The Master of Science in Customer Analytics (MSCA) program began as a collaborative effort between our Marketing and Management Information Systems departments. Our partnership was expanded to include the business community to ultimately help shape and support our program. Our aim is to transform raw data into insights and actions and ultimately communicate the ethical things to do within leadership and the broader organization.

LEAD Magazine: Why should an interested applicant choose Xavier for a graduate business degree?

Jen Bush: For more than 60 years, Xavier has been the best university for a graduate degree in business in the region. There are more than 16,000 MBA alumni worldwide. Our network is strong and connected. For a person who wants to succeed in business, a graduate business degree from Xavier is a prerequisite for success.

LEAD Magazine: How do you describe the philosophy and mission of the Williams College of Business?

Jen Bush: Our goal is to make sure every student is in the best program for his or her needs, wants and circumstances. Cura personalis is at the heart of our Jesuit mission. It means care for the individual, and that’s how we approach anyone wanting a graduate degree in business.

Scott Beck: Our hope is to build a passionate, technically trained group of leaders who are fearless in their resolve to do the right thing.

LEAD Magazine: Who is a candidate for admission into a graduate business program?

Jen Bush: Like our MBA programs, the application process is also streamlined and student-friendly. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Our application process is fluid, flexible and frequent – our applicants get admission decisions in a quick and courteous manner.

Scott Beck: We focus our recruiting efforts on the naturally curious, combined with the quantitative capability to successfully complete the rigorous programs.

LEAD Magazine: What do you envision for the future of Xavier’s graduate business programs?

Scott Beck: Our aim is to ensure alignment with our students, business partners and communities as we seek to develop and continuously refine our MSCA program.  We will tirelessly seek outside points of view with the intention of doing the right thing for everyone. We began this program with collaboration and will continue to work together internally and externally to deliver the best talent to our community.
