The U.S. Marines Corps recently unveiled its artificial intelligence (AI) strategy which marks a significant achievement in its digital modernization initiative.

This strategy establishes a systematic approach to embed AI throughout all echelons of the Marine Corps, enhancing decision-making capabilities to achieve faster and more informed choices.

“Marines leverage technological advancements to fight smart, streamline business operations and close kill chains faster and more reliably than the adversary. AI is one such rapidly emerging technology that, when applied correctly, can significantly change the way Marines train, plan and fight,” the Marine Corps said in the document.

The Marine Corps’ vision for AI is further broken down into five different goals, where each goal contains the required objectives to successfully meet the services’ AI mission.

The goals include:

  1. Comprehensive understanding of mission-specific problems where AI offers a solution.

  2. Developing an AI workforce that can build, support, and sustain an AI system.

  3. Establishing enterprise-to-edge infrastructure.

  4. Establishing policy, governance, and lines of communication for AI initiatives.

  5. Establishing and strengthening partnerships that facilitate the exchange of knowledge, resources, and technologies.

Last month,  Jennifer Swanson, the Army’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Data, Engineering, and Software revealed the U.S. Army is launching a generative AI pilot.

It aims to explore how the army could leverage generative AI beyond backend operations to explore other potential use cases.
