As per a recent research report, the adoption of AI in the Indian healthcare sector is poised to generate nearly 3 million new jobs by 2028, replacing approximately 23% of existing positions.
The report shows the Indian health technology market to grow at a 22% annual rate, reaching US$35.8 billion by 2030. Additionally, the digital health market is expected to expand from US$12.20 billion in 2023 to US$25.64 billion by 2027, with contributions from medical devices and digital applications collectively totaling US$4.9 and US$5.2 billion, respectively.
The total healthcare workforce is expected to increase from 7.5 million to 9 million by 2027, with around 2% of the workforce consisting of technology experts. The rise of telemedicine, virtual assistants, and data analytics is predicted to drive the creation of 2.7-3.5 million technology-related jobs, highlighting the demand for roles such as data scientists and AI specialists.
The healthcare industry's overall hiring is projected to grow by 25% by 2028, driven by the sector's adoption and integration of technological advancements. The report forecasts a 33% surge in demand for tech talent in fiscal year 2025, compared to the average increase of 15-20% in fiscal years 2023-24.
Positions such as data scientists, developers, cybersecurity specialists, technical development engineers, quality testing, and designers are expected to be in high demand, according to the research report.
