Laura Ellis, VP – Data and AI at Rapid7, speaks with Asha Saxena, Founder and CEO at WLDA.tech in a video interview about her personal journey and her thoughts on the developments around AI.
Speaking about her journey to her current role, Ellis says that she loves data, AI, and analytics because they involve people from all angles. She started her career in software engineering and databases and saw the transition to real-time self-serve analytics.
Ellis started pursuing more of the analyst role and got her master's degree in predictive analytics. She was a data scientist for a while before going back into data engineering. She then transitioned to a data leadership role across analytics, data storage, and data science.
When asked about what excites her most about AI, she highlights the cybersecurity aspect of the fast-moving technology.
Ellis elaborates that the impact is in two parts. On the one hand, AI helps analysts to do their jobs better and faster, helping them reduce the noise and derive more context, and in turn, reduce their manual work.
On the one hand, AI itself is a new threat vector too. So, security providers have to expand services and offerings in order to protect AI systems as well.
